“NO SHINING”

Live audiovisual performance that combines the harmonies of music, aesthetics of nature and computational processes.
A live audiovisual performance in which improvised music meets visual art.
With personal lyrics about her experiences as a female artist, Johanna Klein and her quartet composed improvisations that led to complex compositions.
The live visual performance is based on footage from Anna Balthasar’s research project around natural and artificial landscapes in Singapore. Through iterations, mathematical logic and the metaphors of empowering female voices and visual poetry from nature, a reactive harmony was created between the visuals and the music coming from the quartet.
The music works in two modes: free improvisation and sound alienation meet acoustically sounding songs. 'No Shining' addresses topics such as autonomy, adaptation and power relations. The audience is invited to immerse themselves in the visualised sound world of the actors involved.
